My Story
When
I was in my 20s my life was a mess.
I
was...worried, depressed, angry at the world, fearful, easily
frustrated and confrontational.
I had lost
the joy of being alive and knew I had to do something about it.
I
always had a good sense of humor and I loved a good laugh but I never
thought that humor
and laughter could form the cornerstone of my return to wellness
program.
I
began researching the topics of stress management and positive
thinking. I read everything I could get my hands on including the work
of Norman Cousins. For those who don't know, Norman Cousins wrote
a book called " Anatomy of an Illness" which is the bible of humor
therapy. Not only did I research the subject but I started
applying what I learned to my out of control existence.
The result....
within weeks I noticed a change in both attitude and behavior. I
developed a " So What" attitude when it came to the things in
life that were causing me stress. I began to laugh more and
started to draw and sell my cartoons again.
Within
a very short time I had returned to joyful living.
My prayer became...
Slow me down,
Lord.
Ease the
pounding of my heart by the quieting of my mind.
Give me, amidst
of the confusion of my day, the calmness of the everlasting hills."
Eventually
I started writing and speaking on Humor in the Workplace and Humor in
Human Relationships. I wrote and illustrated what has
become my signature book, Light Up With
Laughter. This was followed by
"Embracing
the Mystery" ( Wit and Wisdom of a Life in Progress)
Now
I have written and illustrated a stress manual
"You
Know You're Stressed Out When..."
that includes a lot of what I learned to turn my life around.
It
was written to show you how you too,can turn your life around. All you
need is a plan and a willingness to become a humor hound.
I
also speak about 40-50 times a year to
companies and organizations throughout Canada and the USA on the
awesome power of humor to change lives and relationships
